Sweden Dominate Tournament, Star Team In Poznan 22 July 2008

Three Sweden players feature in the All-Tournament team of the U20 European Championship Women Division B, in Poznan, Poland.

Sweden captured the title by beating the hosts 64-60 in the final, on Sunday. Both teams had already secured promotion to Division A.

Hosts Poland and Sweden secured spots in Division A next summer by winning their semi-finals of the U20 European Championship for Women Division B.

Marta Jujka scored 20 points and Agnieszka Skobel added 12 points as Poland allowed just seven points in the first quarter en route to a 60-41 victory over Slovak Republic.

Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Sweden all won their quarter-finals at U20 European Championship in Poland on Friday.

Hungary jumped out to a 25-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and ultimately prevailed 61-52 over the Netherlands with Zsofia Varga scoring 20 points and pulling down five rebounds.

Romania dealt Hungary their first defeat at the U20 European Championship for Women Division B on Wednesday.

The Romanians stormed out to an 18-5 first-quarter advantage and eventually won 41-35.

No team has beaten Hungary or Sweden at the U20 European Championship for Women Division B in Poland.

Finda Mansaré had another virtuoso display for the Hungarians as they wiped the floor with Great Britain in the fourth quarter en route to a 59-35 Group A victory.

Sweden provided further evidence that basketball is on the rise in the Scandinavian country by upsetting hosts Poland 69-66 in overtime at the U20 European Championship Women, Division B in Poland.

Elin Eldebrink poured in a game-high 25 points for the Swedes, who blew a 36-25 half-time lead but won in the extra period to claim their second victory.


Hosts Poland and the Slovak Republic improved their marks to a perfect 2-0 with blowout victories to lead their respective groups after the second day of action at the U20 European Championship for Women Division B in Poznan.

Marta Jujka collected 12 points and 12 rebounds and Mirela Pultorak led all scorers with 14 points in Poland's 89-38 demolition of Portugal in Group B.

Sweden, Hungary, the Slovak Republic and hosts Poland all enjoyed blowout wins on the opening day of the U20 European Championship for Women Division B in Poznan.

In Group B, the Eldebrink twins led the Swedes in a 70-52 romp over Portugal.

Less than 12 months ago, the Israeli Under-20 women's national team finished 15th in the European Championship and dropped into Division B.

Poznan, Poland, is where Israel and nine other teams, including the hosts, will attempt to win promotion back to the top starting today.


Portugal finished their preparation for the upcoming U20 European Championship Women Division B by splitting a pair of friendlies with the Netherlands in Lisbon.

They lost the opener to the Dutch 65-59 but hit back to claim a 64-57 triumph on Thursday night against the same opponents.
