| Turkey's big three of Bahar Caglar, Yasemin Dalgalar and Gizem Yavuz combined for 55 points as Turkey held off hosts Italy 65-49 at the U20 European Championship for Women.
Caglar had 21 points and 10 rebounds while Dalgalar and Yavuz each scored 17 in helping Turkey improve to 2-1 in the Qualifying Round Group E - even with Serbia and France.
Arianna Zampieri led the Italians with 13 points but it was not enough with Nino Molino's side falling to 1-2 in the group - even with Czech Republic and Latvia.
Turkey opened the game with the first six points and were up 9-2. Italy pulled back to 11-9 but then fell behind 18-11 en route to a 22-15 deficit after one period.
Caglar's seven points spurred a 9-2 surge to start the second quarter in leading Turkey to a 31-17 lead. Clelia Corsi made back-to-back baskets and Zampieri drained a three-ball to make it 31-24. But Bahar Yapar answered with a trey of her own and it was 34-26 for Turkey at the break.
Turkey held Italy at bay and then Ilknur Dumlu knocked down back-to-back three-pointers midway through the third quarter to push the lead to 48-31. And the Turks led 50-35 after three periods.
Italy was spurred on by the home fans in Chieti and played tough defence, holding Turkey scoreless for nearly five minutes in pulling back to within 50-42 on Chiara Rossi's basket. But Caglar scored and Dalgalar converted a three-point play as the lead swelled back to 57-43 with four minutes to play. And Italy could not muster another comeback.
Caglar was substituted out with just over a minute left and was taken to a local hospital after the game to have her right shoulder examined.
