| The draw for FIBA Europe's 2009 Youth Competitions will take place this Saturday, 31st January in Freising, Germany. The draw will determine the groups for the 14 men's and women's youth tournaments that will take place this summer across Europe. That total consists of six A Division championships, six B Division championships and two C Division championships, both at the U18 level. |  |

| Olga Petrova scored 21 points to lead Russia to their fourth title at the U20 European Championship for Women, holding off France 67-58 in Pescara.
Russia used an 8-0 surge in the fourth quarter to put the game away by opening a 14-point advantage. Olga Zhuzgova added 10 points off the bench as tournament MVP Natalia Vieru struggled with foul trouble.

| Natalia Vieru was named Most Valuable Player of the U20 European Championship for Women after helping Russia to the gold medal in Pescara.
The 19-year-old center Vieru was dominant throughout the tournament though she struggled to just six points with foul trouble in Russia's 67-58 victory over France in the final.
